The Little Known Effects of Cinnamon and Creatine

Some of you may have noticed that LuaVíve's Creatine Coffee includes 87.5mg of cinnamon.  While cinnamon does enhance the deliciousness of the product, it is included in our Creatine Coffee for other important reasons.  Studies show that when creatine is consumed with simple sugars, such as glucose, it is absorbed at a significantly higher rate.  Elevated insulin levels ensure that glucose and creatine are cleared out of the bloodstream and pumped into the muscle tissues (i.e. increasing the absorption rate).  However, no one wants to add simple sugars to their diets, which is where cinnamon comes in.

It has been observed that cinnamon extract imitates the effects of insulin and thus assists in creatine absorption.  In addition, cinnamon may enhance insulin binding in muscle cells, which leads to a better uptake of glucose, creatine and amino acids by the muscle issue.   This is important because improving glucose uptake assists in the recovery from an intense workout and boosting amino acid uptake assists in protein synthesis, which supports muscle growth.  Furthermore, cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties and has also been shown to cut the risk of heart disease and improve blood levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol.
